A few thoughts settled this morning that apparently have no connection. I was looking at the low engagement on “Apply Now” buttons across LinkedIn, despite the market stabilizing, and then I remembered a conversation I had yesterday about why we wait to buy a new winter coat until the first frost hits.
But if we look closer, there is a profound shift happening in the way we view our careers this year. Did you take some time to notice your thoughts on the subject?
I noticed something in my recent sessions. When I ask, “Are you ready to update your CV today?” the room goes quiet. It’s not laziness. It’s the same feeling you get when you’re invited to a high-end gala but feel your outfit is three seasons out of date. You don’t want to go—not because you don’t like parties, but because you don’t feel readyto be seen. You feel “exposed.”
The 2026 workplace reports from McKinsey and Deloitte explain why. We are living in the age of “Digital Fragility” via The AI Anxiety: McKinsey recently reported that while AI won’t replace most jobs, it is changing the tasks of 80% of the workforce.
This is where the two meet. The “Shop Window” (your LinkedIn profile or CV) is empty because the “Warehouse” (your confidence and skill set) feels under construction. Just as you wouldn’t invite guests into a house while the walls are being torn down, professionals in 2026 are refusing to “brand” themselves until they feel sturdy. They aren’t in a hurry to take action because they realize that an outdated brand in a high-speed AI market is a liability, not an asset.
Action without alignment is just noise. If you feel “digitally fragile,” the answer isn’t to send more applications; it’s to build your Inner Compass.
1. Prioritize Clarity: Define your “Human-Only” value (e.g. Empathy, Ethics, Judgment).
2. Upgrade to Fluency: Move from fearing AI to orchestrating it.
3. Then, and only then, become visible.
The “Popular Wisdom” says: “Just get out there, network, and fail fast!”
My Contrarian View: In 2026, “failing fast” is expensive. The market has no patience for “generic” talent. If you don’t know who you are or how you work with technology, staying “invisible” for an extra month to do the inner work is actually the most aggressive and successful career move you can make.
Are you staying invisible because you’re stuck, or because you’re rebuilding?
If you’re ready to move from “Fragile” to “Irreplaceable,” our Career Mastery English Track opens registrations on 22nd January. We don’t just fix your CV; we fix the strategy behind it.
Are you building a career that is AI-proof, or just AI-adjacent? Let me know in the comments.
